What We Stand For

About Us

Chocolate Chix Logo

Chocolate Chix Inc is a nonprofit sisterhood of sensational women taking on some the greatest challenges affecting BIPOC communities worldwide. Among other efforts, our organization is impassioned about matters related to mentality, poverty, equity, and the overall empowerment of humanity.

In addition to our endeavors, Chocolate Chix shares a commitment to our pillars: sisterhood, strength of character, self-evolvement, and of course, service. We purpose to maintain healthy balance of fun and philanthropy that turns, what could be viewed as work into an opportunity for wellness. Our organization is situated between Los Angeles and Compton in the city of Gardena, CA — the perfect proximity to make an impact on those who need us most.

How We Got Started

Based in Christian beliefs, Chocolate Chix is inspired by the greatest gift of all, love. It began when founder , Jamil Houston, coined the endeared term ‘Chocolate Chix’ to describe the women with whom she loves and shares so much of her life. Today, this term is used to describe a growing number of incredible mothers, wives, entrepreneurs, executives, personalities, and friends, who are also the most sensational champions of change.

The sisterhood flourished through supportive interaction including conference calls, prayer circles, round tables, getaways, hideaways, and the annual Chocolate Chix tropical trip. Remarkably, in 14 years not one Chocolate Chix gathering was missed by a single participant. And so was established the sisterhood of sensational women of color, Chocolate Chix.

I don’t know first hand since the flagship members have never been in a sorority however I DO know that we start at age 30 whereas undergrad chapters of sororities start much younger. Chocolate Chix also share a unique commitment to the 3 pillars in addition to committing time to one another.
